Oxidation of Contact Pins: Treatment & Prevention

Treatment Measures

  • Oxide Removal: Gently polish oxidation layer with fine sandpaper (metal components only) to avoid damaging base material
  • Thorough Cleaning: Clean contact surfaces with anhydrous ethanol to remove polishing residue and contaminants
  • Component Replacement: Replace severely oxidized contact pins to ensure stable electrical performance

Preventive Measures

Premium Plating Selection

Choose gold-plated contact pins to form a protective layer that resists oxidation and reduces contact resistance.

Environmental Control

Avoid long-term exposure to high-humidity or corrosive environments; use sealed enclosures for outdoor applications.

Idle Protection

Install dust caps on idle connectors to seal contact surfaces and prevent moisture/dust from causing oxidation.

Technical Note: For connectors in marine or coastal environments, apply anti-corrosion grease (compatible with plating) to contact surfaces to extend oxidation resistance by up to 3 times.
