Causes for Insulation Performance Degradation of M9 Connectors

Insulation Degradation Core Principle

  • Contamination & Aging & Damage: The insulation performance of M9 connectors mainly depends on the insulation layer of cable and the insulating rubber shell, which will be reduced due to external contamination, environmental aging and man-made wiring damage.

Main Causing Factors & Targeted Solutions

① Port Water/Dust Ingress

Cause: Water and dust enter the connector port, which reduces the insulation resistance between cores and between core and shell.
Solution: Disassemble the connector, clean the internal dirt with anhydrous ethanol and dry it completely before reassembly.

② Rubber Shell Aging

Cause: Long-term use in high temperature/humid environment causes aging and hardening of the insulating rubber shell, resulting in attenuation of insulation performance.
Solution: Replace the aged and damaged rubber shell with original factory accessories to restore the insulation performance of the connector.

③ Cable Insulation Layer Damage

Cause: The cable insulation layer is damaged during wiring, leading to micro short circuit and sharp drop of insulation performance.
Solution: Replace the damaged cable, rewire and ensure the insulation layer is intact, and do a good job of sealing and protection after wiring.

Technical Note: Regularly test the insulation resistance of M9 connectors in harsh environments (≥100MΩ@500V DC is normal); standardize wiring operation and do a good job of on-site sealing and dustproof/waterproof to effectively prevent insulation performance degradation.
