M12 Connector Coding Standards & Application

  • Common Coding Types: A/B/D/X/S/K encodings for different transmission scenarios (signal, bus, Ethernet, power).
  • Key Feature: Different encodings have distinct keyway positions to prevent misplugging, ensuring connection safety.
  • Identification Method: Judge the encoding type by checking the position of the keyway inside the plug, incompatible encodings cannot be interplugged.

Coding Types & Anti-misplug Rules

Common Coding & Applications

A Coding:
• Sensors/actuators, I/O, general signal transmission

B Coding:
• DeviceNet, CANopen field bus communication

D Coding:
• Profinet, EtherNet/IP 100M industrial Ethernet

X Coding:
• Gigabit Ethernet (high-speed industrial Ethernet)

S/K Coding:
• S: Power supply applications
• K: Motor power transmission

Anti-misplug & Identification Rules

Keyway Identification:
• Check the position of the mechanical keyway inside the plug
• Each encoding has a unique keyway position (12/180/240 degrees etc.)

Anti-misplug Design:
• Incompatible encodings cannot be physically interplugged
• Prevent wrong connection of signal/power lines
• Avoid equipment damage caused by misconnection

Selection Tip:
• Match encoding type to actual transmission requirements

Technical Tip: The keyway-based coding design of M12 connectors is a core safety feature. When selecting, confirm the encoding type according to application scenarios: A coding for general signals, D/X coding for Ethernet, S/K coding for power transmission. Never force interplugging different encodings to avoid equipment failure or safety hazards.
